Stevenage hung on to register their sixth straight victory and keep themselves firmly in the League Two promotion picture with a 2-1 defeat of Bradford.
Stevenage were good value for their half-time lead at Broadhall Way.
City's Tom Adeyemi showed up well early on as his well-struck shot was saved by Chris Day.
The hosts responded though, with Scott Laird and Stacy Long both trying shots from long range which flew narrowly wide.
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute as Steve Williams upended Long in the box and referee Brendan Malone pointed to the spot.
Up stepped John Mousinho to comfortably beat Jon McLaughlin.
Darius Charles almost made it two, but McLaughlin saved well.
After Charles had again gone close to a second for Stevenage, it was City who levelled in the 72nd minute.
David Syers pounced from close range after latching onto Gareth Evans' near-post corner.
However, the hosts went back in front just five minutes later as Charles fired home from 12 yards.
