Peter Jackson's first game as permanent Bradford manager ended in a 2-1 defeat to Aldershot.
The Shots flew out of the blocks and took the lead in the 18th minute when Alex Rodman's left-wing cross found Danny Hylton, who finished coolly.
The Bantams tried to get back into the game thereafter but their problems worsened seven minutes before the break as Robbie Threlfall could only head Rodman's cross past his own goalkeeper.
Clearly spurred on by Jackson's half-time teamtalk, the hosts improved after the interval but Rodman was continuing his inspired performance by forcing an excellent save from Jamie Young.
Despite impressing with their build-up play, Bradford were struggling to fashion any real opportunities as their final ball left a lot to be desired.
They did pull one back as James Hanson headed Jack Compton's cross home but it proved little more than a consolation.
