He wants to be able to snuff out the threat from Brentford's experienced frontman Neil Shipperley.

"Neil Shipperley is a good player and he's obviously made a difference to Brentford, who have done very well since they got him in.," he told the Telegraph and Argus."I've not formulated the team yet but playing myself is something I'll look at.

"But I wasn't looking at the game last week and thinking that the boys needed me out there. Simon Ainge came in and did very well.

"I could have put myself under pressure for playing Simon and Joe Colbeck, and people might have pointed the finger, but you make decisions and stand by them.

"I had no hesitation in picking the younger lads who had been out of favour and I thought they repaid that faith. If players are good enough, they are old enough.

"I would have no problem with throwing Simon in again or, for that matter, playing Matt Clarke.

"I'll see how I feel. The first week was crazy and I was nowhere near playing but if I feel I'm the best man to play that position on Saturday, then I'll play."
