Taylor, who will take over the Bantams hot-seat from Stuart McCall - who left the club last week following a disappointing run of results which saw the Yorkshire club at the wrong end of the League Two table - has penned an initial three-month deal at Valley Parade.
The former England Under-21 coach, who was most recently the manager of League One side Wycombe, is keen to get started as soon as possible.
He told the club's official website: "The potential here is huge and I would really like to tap into it, that's why I'm here and that's why I am looking to extend my stay here.
"We all know the team has to start picking up some results and look to turn a corner.
"The players will be given every opportunity to impress me, but if results don't start to pick up then I may have to ask the board very politely if I can bring in some players."
