Late strikes from debutant Robbie Threlfall and Gareth Evans saw off Hill's title favourites and handed Peter Taylor his first win as Bradford boss.
Hill said: "It was a fair result, their two second-half goals were excellent and we were never good enough to win it. Bradford were excellent on the night and they have clearly responded to the new manager.
"They edged the work rate and never allowed us to get into our tempo. When we got it to 1-1 I thought we might get something out of the game.
"But I never felt we were too comfortable. We dominated possession in the second half but they always looked a threat."
