Phil Edwards put Stanley ahead from the penalty spot after Tom Adeyemi had handballed but on-loan Jason Price claimed a leveller after a scramble in the penalty area.
Jacobs said: We showed some spirit in the second half, but the first half was just not good enough.
"The players were told that at half-time in no uncertain terms. We told them not to let Accrington settle. They are a good side and they play with energy.
"Omar Daley came on at half-time and contributed well. You hope that will happen with a substitute and he did very well for us.
"We were delighted to see Jason Price score his first goal for the club. Accrington may have disputed our equaliser but as far as we're concerned we got the ball in the box and it looked a good goal."
