Bradford summer signing Tommy Doherty is expected to miss the opening game of the new season at Shrewsbury. Doherty, a free signing who teamed back up with manager Peter Taylor who he played under at Wycombe, injured his calf on the second day of pre-season training and has not featured in any friendlies. Fellow midfielder Michael Flynn (stomach muscle) is hoping to make it. Taylor told the club's official website; "Tommy is struggling for the first match. Flynny is ahead of him and has got a chance, but Tom is doubtful. "It's very touch and go. He needs to play some part against Rochdale and Park Avenue. "Obviously being out is a blow for him, but it happens. That's really why you need two players in every position."
