League Two side Bradford City have signed former Aston Villa, Sheffield United and England midfielder Lee Hendrie on a short-term deal. The 33-year-old was without a club having left Derby in the summer and goes straight into contention for Saturday's match at home to Gillingham.
"These next few weeks will be very interesting for me, and I will knuckle down," Hendrie told BBC Radio Leeds.
"I have to use this to build up my fitness and get back to my peak."
Hendrie finished last season at League One Brighton on loan from Derby, where he made six starts and had attracted interest from Aberdeen and Reading.
Previous to his move to Pride Park, the midfielder had spells at Leicester City, Blackpool and Stoke and has admitted working with Peter Taylor was a big attraction.
"I know what sort of man he is and out of all the managers I've played under he's been one of the better managers.
"He has always given me a bit of confidence, which at this moment in time I think I need to be honest.
"He has just said to me come here and come and enjoy your football, get yourself fit and get yourself going again."
Hendrie's cousin John played for the Bantams between 1984 and 1988, making 173 league appearances.
